May 13, 2012-
It's Mothers Day! Happy birthday mothers. Another report of American and British (in other words NATO) troops being killed by Afghan army and police officers. This time two British soldiers were killed when an Afghan police officer, loyal to both the Taliban and al Qaeda, were simply shot dead. Americans lost a Delta Force soldier, the best of the best, due to friendly fire - but is it friendly? Are the Afghans our allies or are they just biding their time waiting for us to leave as they pick off our guys one by one? Time to go. The president didn't (and won't) lay out a strategy for victory in Afghanistan so it's time to stop pretending - pull out and bring the troops home. If NATO wants to stay let them do it without Americans. Stories abound as it was announced that California has a budget shortfall of over $16 BILLION - this after being told just a month ago that the shortfall would be $9B. Gov. Brown says we have to cut things and raise taxes. This "raising taxes on the rich" thing doesn't work and all one need do is look at the exodus from California. The way you fix the California budget is to gut it and start fresh. Get rid of dumb, duplicative agencies and end the absurdity that California is somehow going to come back from the brink anytime soon since more than 55% of the state pay NO INCOME TAX - the only fair thing to do would be to make them pay too. If I'm taxed again, I'm leaving the state for another that will allow me to keep more of what I earn.

With only a couple of months left until the mayor's race in San Diego either comes to a head with a 50% winner or goes to a run-off election, it's not surprising that the Union Tribune selected Carl DeMaio as their endorsement (do endorsements even matter?). The sad thing is that they list his accomplishments as two things: being a businessman (where he earned his money taking tax dollars and using them to teach agencies like the GSA how to be better stewards of the tax dollars they are given - how'd that work out?) and that he can gather signatures for ballot measures. Using that as a measure for a qualification for being mayor of San Diego means that just about anybody can do it. If you ran a private business less time than I spent in college, you're not an entrepreneur. As for gathering signatures - big deal. I'm asked for signatures all the time at stores all over Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and New York - should all of those people run for mayor too? As for ignoring Nathan Fletcher, yes he bucked the party, yes he has the support of labor unions, but what's changed in San Diego with DeMaio on the Council that was not a product of the people having to go to the ballot box - something that can happen without him in the mayor's chair? Not a whole lot and maybe if he was going to be bold and get people on his side to make things happen I would care more, but he's not. His plan: make us vote on things more often. No thank you. I think San Diego needs a leader that can build a coalition and do what a representative form of government is built to do - REPRESENT! If you have to compromise you have to compromise, but that's better than spending millions of dollars to send people to the polls to vote on ballot measure that a judge will just throw out. Nathan Fletcher gets an honorable mention in the U-T, but that is all about not wanting to throw a Marine under the bus. Thanks U-T, but I'd rather have somebody that left the GOP than somebody that has accomplished little more than stand in front of Vons. Lot's of other stories too: Junior Seau's suicide was a selfish act that should have been a blip on the news, but boy did we all milk that one huh - some even cried (news people that is). Why? He took his own life and it's not like the people shedding tears shed a single one for any member of the military that killed his or herself while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan or after coming home. Where are the flags at half staff for that? Nowhere.

April 29, 2012-
Two anniversaries that the president is talking about: the first is the death of Osama bin Laden and Obama has gone full bore on telling us how instrumental he was in going to the fight to actually kill Osama himself (and that Mitt Romney would not have done the mission had he been president). Is Obama insane? Any president, presented with the choice to get OBL would go and get him - maybe the difference would have been his death would have been proven to the American people with pictures and he wouldn't have received a longer funeral than a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine being buried at sea. The second anniversary was all about the Los Angeles riots. Dan Savage, a convicted criminal and sex columnist, went on an anti-Christian attack and about 20% - or 100 teen-aged kids from high school - walked out of a journalism talk about bullying because the rant Savage went on was vile and disgusting. The ONLY group of people that you are allowed to discriminate against and bully are Christians. These are kids and listen to the applause from students and teachers. DIsgusting. Then there was a Union Tribune article about Nathan Fletcher that was an attack on Fletcher not for what he thinks, but what he did in the Marine Corps and how going from the GOP to Independent is against Corps Values. We had a chat about a litany of things and people became incensed when I talked about how college should not be "for everybody" because teaching people that they must go to college to succeed is insane and wrong. We need to get rid of community colleges and trade them in for trade schools.

Earth Day (and Lenin's birthday, one has to wonder if there was a cake at the White House). There was not much to celebrate since we are about to see $60 light bulbs in California. Speaking of California, there is a great story about the end of California and what economists are calling an exodus of the productive people and an influx of people that are unable to do anything to help themselves. Stories abound of the long-term deal that was struck that will keep troops in Afghanistan for an additional TEN YEARS after the draw-down in 2012 (in 2024 we will still be paying a corrupt government and terrorists). Speaking of terrorists, the Muslim Brotherhood decided to cut off gas supplies to Israel and there is no way not to tie it to the (Obama's) Arab Spring. Odd isn't it: we didn't help Iran with their uprising and they are an enemy, but we did help overthrow a friendly government (to us) and ended up allowing Islamists to take over. The show page is full of stories we talked about and your calls made it equally fun.

Tax Day, sort of, you have an extension to file your income taxes until Tuesday because there is a holiday in Washington, D.C. (Emancipation Day, whatever that's for), but doesn't that only give the day off for city workers? Last we looked the IRS and the mail went off the federal holiday system. But, whatever, bureaucrats. A Secret Service scandal that swept up at least 5, maybe more, members of the U.S. military occurred over the weekend and it was all about a $47 debt owed to a prostitute alleged to have received "services" from the lady of the night and refused to pay. She called the police, because she had a license to play the hooker game, but still - this captivated the country (well, the media). The way I figure it, if it is okay for Bill Clinton, who sets the standard for behavior, to cavort and all of the presidents that actually used hookers to do it, it's good enough for them. No big deal - morally repugnant? You bet, but enough to cause the stir that it did for a 'summit' that didn't matter? No way. And a U-T story on an angel of death who sold suicide kits from her home by mail order. I talk about the unique struggle to survive that we have as a species - one day science matters (fight or flight) and the next day people defend a monster who sells suicide kits to people who are simply depressed. I've been depressed and thought about suicide, but doing it would have left a mess for everybody that cared for me. Why? She should be in prison, but the government isn't prosecuting her for that (they're getting her on tax fraud). And hearings begin on Monday for the GSA $800k party and a litany of other issues. The leader of the party will be taking the Fifth, but they'll go through the circus anyway - meanwhile, there is more waste in a day at a military base than the GSA wastes in a weekend.

March 25, 2012-
Obamacare finally starts working its way through the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday and arguments will be released just hours after they're made - three days of them (with audio following each day). There is also the case about the Marine getting a Silver Star for his heroism in Afghanistan - a story that too many people are not talking about because they'd rather talk about one Soldier that may have gone bad - but the USA paid more than $50k per person as a loss benefit. My question to Afghanistan is with all of the cases, including three in the last days, of United States or NATO forces being killed by Afghan security forces or police (armed, funded, and trained by the USA and our allies), how much money is being given by the government of Afghanistan to members of the US military that are not killed by members of the Afghan government? The answer is easy: NONE. We shouldn't have paid anything to these people at all, certainly not DOUBLE what they would make in their LIFETIME - using that formula these 20-somethings killed by Afghans' families should be getting millions of dollars. We talked about local murder and local stories and how they relate to a various number of issues, including the overly-racist rhetoric coming out of Florida. The hate mongers calling themselves civil rights advocates are falling all over themselves to present the Florida case as one of white on black violence when it's anything but. Finally, what can Marines say about the president? If they are commissioned officers not much of anything, but if they are enlisted men they can say just about anything. The problem with too many people in the media is they don't know the UCMJ or military orders and comment before the fact. We fixed it.

March 18, 2012-
Mitt Romney declared the winner of the GOP primary in Puerto Rico - a big winner with an overwhelming 83% of the vote in this conservative leaning territory. Considered a contender for the 51st state many are wondering if the great number of voters who came out to vote in the GOP primary is a clue as to how people will vote when it comes to statehood (the last time the people of Puerto Rico voted to seek statehood or not the vote failed by only a few thousand votes). Conventional wisdom is that Puerto Rico as the 51st state would be a Democratic boon, but that thinking is flawed, there is a Catholic, conservative, GOP dominated government in Puerto Rico and there must certainly be a fear that the 51st state would be a red one and Democrats are doing nothing to get the Hispanic vote. The other big story of the day is the return of the Soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians to CONUS. Formal charges against Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales are likely this week and that will be followed by an Article 32 and ultimately a court martial. His fourth deployment in Afghanistan was cut short, but he deployed three times to Iraq and was previously a stock broker who enlisted in the Army months after the terrorist Jihadist attacks on America on September 11th. TOO MANY people do not understand the military justice system. And Iran says that the West must accept a nuclear Iran. That did not go over well in Israel and we'll be watching closely as the window begins to close on the ability to stop the rogue state get a nuclear weapon.

Steve Yuhas, called a "rising star" in radio, hosts his unique take on current events and politics during The Steve Yuhas Show - dubbed Uniquely Conservative Talk Radio™. Heard live from San Diego to Santa Barbara; Mexico to Arizona and all over the world on AM 600 KOGO - San Diego's News & Talk Station.
From one entertainment reporter, "At first listen, Steve Yuhas sounds like just about any other right-wing talk-show host on the dial... His guests include the usual array of newsmakers and gadflies, and his running commentary is sprinkled with nasty zingers about liberals and Democrats. He buddies around with like-minded colleagues. And his arch-conservative opinions are reliably predictable." It is not exactly that simple for this Jewish disabled former military man who happens also to be gay.
Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps and Army, Yuhas served from Texas to Germany; California to the Middle East. He believes that service to his country made him able to overcome the adversity that came after he sustained a spinal cord injury. Now a Lifetime Member of the Disabled American Veterans as well as a member of Paralyzed Veterans of America - he works hard for military folks and veterans alike.
In a time when being a veteran is uncommon in public office, not to mention on radio and television, Yuhas brings a unique perspective to the field. Guests have included everyone from the high ranking military men in our and other countries, secretaries of government agencies, local and national politicians and international leaders including former Prime Ministers and ambassadors from the world over. Callers & Yuhas' unique biography make the Steve Yuhas Show unlike any other radio show. |

Demonic
The demon is a mob, and the mob is demonic. The Democratic Party activates mobs, depends on mobs, coddles mobs, publicizes and celebrates mobs—it is the mob. Sweeping in its scope and relentless in its argument, Demonic explains the peculiarities of liberals as standard groupthink behavior. To understand mobs is to understand liberals.

Decision Points
Whatever you think about his presidency and whatever your thoughts are on 9-11 (unless you are a 9-11 "truther" nut), this is a good read that comes from the heart. You get to take a detailed look into what Bush was thinking when he made the choices he did not only when he was POTUS, but when he was climbing the ladder ot the White House. It is not snarky or pompous - in fact - it is a very humble look by someone who appears to be at peace by what he did as President of the United States.

A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (And Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media
"Never in my memory," says veteran journalist Bernard Goldberg, "were so many journalists so intent on effecting change as they were during the campaign of 2008." Sure, mainstream journalists always root for the Democrat -- Richard Nixon complained of media bias as long ago as his presidential campaign against John F. Kennedy in 1960. But in 2008 it went beyond that. In A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (and Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media, Goldberg shows that this time journalists were not satisfied merely being partisan witnesses to history.

Texas governor Rick Perry, through the legacy of the Boy Scouts of America, takes dead aim at the moral relativism of the secular humanist movement, indicting its corrosive impact on the culture. Examining the left's legal assaults on the Boy Scouts of America - which span more than 30 years - Perry offers prescient insight into the multi-faceted war, which pits the proponents of traditional American values against the radical leftist movement that seeks to tear down our social foundations.

Repeal of DADT: time for ousted servicemen to return
By: Steve Yuhas
On Saturday the Senate voted 65 to 31 to end the policy known as Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The outcome of the vote was known for days since Republican Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) indicated that he would vote for cloture and in favor of the bill if it came to the Senate in a stand-alone piece of legislation. It did and it passed, but the back-story is interesting since this could have been accomplished almost two years ago, but an even bigger story is what will happen to those people ‘wrongly fired’ since DADT became law? I say they should go back and finish their contract.

They're fighting deportation to Israel from Canada because they are lesbians. Meanwhile, you have to read ALL THE WAY to the bottom of the story to realize that they are not afraid of the most liberal democracy in the Middle East, where gay parades and gay clubs exist openly and are fine with citiies from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv; Haifa to Elat - nope, these lesbians are afraid of going back to Arab neighborhoods. They don't fear Israel, they fear their own Muslim neighbors.

What does it mean to be 'straight-friendly' in the hotel business? Could it be that you're allowed to have couples of the opposite sex in the same hotel room or is there something more to it than that? The notion of gay-friendly is just odd - has anybody ever not been allowed to check into a hotel in NYC because they are gay? Never heard of a single instance of it and people will point to the 1950s, but what does that have to do with the last, say, 20 years? Nothing. Dumb.
